About the Short Kokhe Danda Trek

The Short Kokhe Danda Trek is designed for travelers who don't have a week to spare but refuse to compromise on the experience. In just 3 days you reach the same panoramic ridgeline, see the same Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range views, and walk the same quiet trails that make the 5-day Kokhe Danda Trek one of our most loved routes. The only difference is the pace.

The approach is direct. A drive from Pokhara to Banthati puts you at the base of the climb on Day 1, and you walk straight up through Taprang to Aapa Cottage on Kokhe Danda in a single push. You arrive with the full reward waiting: a sweeping view of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and the rolling hills of Parbat stretching out below. Sunrise and sunset up here are unhurried and genuinely stunning.

Day 2 brings one of the most enjoyable parts of any Kokhe Danda journey, the descent to Lespar village. This is where the trek slows down in the best possible way. You explore the village on foot, meet the families who live here, and sit down for a momo-making session with your host. A home-cooked meal and a night in a genuine Magar family homestay round out the day.

On the final morning a short climb and an easy walk take you to Haljure, then down to Banau for a scenic drive back via Kushma. The whole journey fits inside a long weekend, yet it carries the same silence, the same mountain views, and the same warmth of local hospitality as the longer route.

One practical note: if the weather at Kokhe Danda isn't clear on the evening of Day 1, you can spend an extra morning there waiting for the views, then return via the same route on Day 3. Poor weather doesn't have to mean a missed experience.

✦ Trek Highlights

  • Kokhe Danda summit (3,310 m) on the very first afternoon
  • Sunset and sunrise from the ridge, with a spare morning if it's cloudy
  • A night with a Magar family in Lespar
  • Momo-making with your hosts
  • Rhododendron and oak forest above Taprang
  • Fits a long weekend from Pokhara

An early start, around 7 AM. The first hour and a half is on good tarmac to Birethanti, then a rough road climbs to the trailhead at Banthati (2,300 m). It is an hour and a half on foot to Taprang for lunch, then about 600 m more through rhododendron and oak, finishing along the open ridge, to Aapa Cottage on Kokhe Danda.

Altitude: 3,310m Distance: 5.7 KM Time: 4.5 Hrs Stay: Teahouse

Sunrise from the top takes in Dhaulagiri and Annapurna across to Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the Langtang range on a clear day.

After breakfast the trail passes Mohare Danda and stays mostly level or gently downhill to a small lunch spot at Dhima Danda. Then comes 30 minutes of steep descent and 30 of flat walking to Jaljala, followed by a long stone staircase all the way down to Lespar.

The afternoon is free to walk a short circuit around the village, and the evening is spent folding momos with your Lespar host family.

After a village breakfast, the day opens with an hour of stone steps uphill, then an hour on the level to Haljure, with one last mountain view, before the descent to Banau. The car meets you there for the drive to Pokhara, with a stop in Kushma for the bungee jump or zipline if you're tempted.

Short Kokhe Danda Trek FAQ

No prior trekking experience is needed. The trek is rated Easy and suits first-time trekkers. The longest day involves around 5 hours of walking, and Day 1 has a steady climb of about 1,000 m, so a basic level of fitness helps.

We arrange private transport from Pokhara to Banthati, about 2 hours: a good road to Birethanti, then an off-road section up to the trailhead. On the last day we drive back from Banau via Kushma. Both transfers are included.

The first night is at Aapa Cottage, a simple teahouse right on Kokhe Danda, and the second night is with a Magar family in Lespar. Rooms are basic and bathrooms usually shared; meals are home-cooked.

You eat what the local families eat: mostly dal bhat (lentils and rice), fresh vegetables, local honey, eggs, and seasonal produce. On Day 2 there is a hands-on momo-making session with your host family. Let us know about dietary restrictions in advance.

Mobile signal (NCell or NTC) is available in most villages along the route, though it can be patchy on the higher ridgelines. Wi-Fi is not reliably available at the homestays; this is a remote trail and that is part of its charm. Download offline maps and let family know you may be out of contact for stretches. A local SIM card from Pokhara is a good idea if you need connectivity.

March to May and October to November are best. Spring brings rhododendrons into bloom, and autumn gives the clearest mountain views. December is quiet with crisp visibility. June to September is monsoon. See our best season for Kokhe Danda guide.

Yes. This route starts from Banthati inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, so an ACAP permit is required. It is included in your trek cost and we arrange it in Pokhara before departure.

Solo trekkers are very welcome. You will have a private guide for the whole trek, or you can join a group departure. Here is why a guided trek makes sense on Kokhe Danda.

Sturdy walking shoes or light trekking boots, warm layers for a cold night at 3,300 m, a rain jacket, a daypack, a water bottle, sunscreen and a headlamp. See our full Kokhe Danda packing list.

If you need to return early for any reason, there is no refund on the remaining trek cost. However, we will arrange comfortable accommodation for you in Pokhara for the number of nights that remain on your itinerary, at no extra charge. Please also see the full Cancellation Policy for details.
